STAR Scholars Press is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for experienced scholars and emerging leaders in academia. We are currently seeking Editors and Co-Editors to lead new or existing book series within our global network of publications.

We are excited to share an opportunity with STAR Scholars Press, which is currently seeking editors and co-editors to lead new or existing book series.

Role and Responsibilities

As a series editor, your role will involve:

  • Providing scholarly guidance and reviewing selected book proposals or manuscripts within the series.

  • Offering consultation when your expertise aligns with new submissions.

  • Collaborating with faculty colleagues or co-editors to publish your own or joint works through this series or any of the STAR Scholars journals and book publications.

This is a minimal time commitment—approximately two hours per month, with one annual virtual meeting. A PhD or EdD is required to serve as an editor or co-editor. Doctoral students are invited to join the STAR Scholars editorial community by serving on the Book Review Committee and collaborating with editors on selected book projects. Through this engagement, they can gain valuable experience in scholarly publishing, peer review, and editorial processes. Doctoral students are also encouraged to apply as Editorial Support Research Fellows, contributing to the development of ongoing book series and strengthening their professional networks within the global STAR Scholars community.

STAR Scholars Press is now accepting book proposals for its ongoing and upcoming series. Proposals should include:

•  Title and brief rationale

•  Tentative table of contents (5–10 chapters)

•  List of potential contributors

Q: Who can publish with STAR Scholars Press?
A: Any scholar—from doctoral students to senior academics—with original research and a clear scholarly vision is welcome to publish with STAR Scholars Press. We particularly encourage submissions from emerging and established scholars across diverse global backgrounds.

Q: What is the publishing process?
The process includes four key steps:

  1. Proposal Submission – Submit your book concept or draft proposal at press.starscholars.org.

  2. Review and Quote – The editorial team reviews your submission and provides a non-binding quote.

  3. Peer Review and Editing – Includes professional peer review, copyediting, plagiarism screening, layout, and formatting.

  4. Publication and Promotion – The final book is published digitally with an ISBN and DOI and promoted through our global academic network.

Q: Do authors retain the copyright to their work?
A: Yes. Authors retain full copyright under a Creative Commons license (CC BY or CC BY-NC), allowing for open access and broad dissemination.

Q: Are non-English submissions accepted?
A: Yes. We welcome multilingual proposals and translations to promote linguistic and cultural diversity in academic publishing.

Q: Can my institution be listed as a co-publisher?
A: Yes. STAR Scholars Press supports institutional co-branding and dual publication models with universities and research organizations.

Editorial Roles and Series Participation

Q: Can editors lead or co-lead more than one book series?
A: Yes. Editors may lead or co-lead more than one series, subject to approval by the STAR Scholars Press editorial board. We encourage collaborative and interdisciplinary series.

Q: Can doctoral students participate in the editorial process?
A: Yes. Doctoral students are invited to join the STAR Scholars editorial community as Editorial Support Fellows. They may serve on the Book Review Committee, collaborate with editors on selected book projects, and gain valuable experience in scholarly publishing, peer review, and editorial processes.

Publishing Fees and Funding Support

Q: Are there any submission fees?
A: No. STAR Scholars Press does not charge submission fees for proposals or manuscripts.

Q: What are the publication fees?
A: Publication fees vary based on the type and length of the project. Full books (monographs or edited volumes) are generally $10,000, shorter books range around $6,000, and individual chapters in edited collections are $1,500.

Q: Are discounts or waivers available?
A: Yes. Discounts and waivers are available for authors from low- and lower-middle-income countries, early-career researchers, doctoral students with documented need, and authors affiliated with STAR member institutions.

Q: Can institutional or grant funding cover publishing fees?
A: Many universities, libraries, and funding agencies support open access publishing and allow research grants to cover Article or Book Processing Charges (APCs/BPCs). Authors are encouraged to check available support from their institution or funder.
