To support editorial services, peer-review coordination, production, and global dissemination, STAR Scholars Press may apply publication fees for open-access books and journal articles

STAR Scholars Press partners with universities, research institutes, and libraries worldwide so authors can publish OA books, chapters, and articles without paying full publication costs. Through institutional agreements, publication fees (APCs/BPCs) can be fully or partially covered.

How institutional support works

Many institutions maintain OA budgets or transformative agreements to fund APCs/BPCs for faculty, staff, and students. Funds are commonly managed by libraries, research offices, academic departments, or consortia.

  • Full coverage: 100% of the publication fee is paid by the institution.
  • Partial coverage: A fixed percentage (e.g., 25–50%) or capped amount is covered.
  • Hybrid support: Combine institutional funds with STAR waivers, grants, or sponsorships for minimal author cost.

Accessing institutional funding: 4 quick steps

1. Contact your library or research office early. Ask if your institution has an OA publishing agreement that covers STAR Scholars Press fees.
2. Request written confirmation. Obtain proof of funding support, including amount and any conditions.
3. Coordinate with STAR Scholars. Share details so we can invoice your institution directly or apply discounts before publication.
4. Combine funding sources. We’ll help stack institutional support with waivers, grants, or sponsorships.

Editorial decisions are made independently of any publication fees. All manuscripts must successfully complete the peer-review process before acceptance.

Fee waivers or reductions may be available for authors from under-resourced institutions or regions, subject to available funding.

We support Creative Commons licenses such as CC BY or CC BY‑NC‑ND, according to your goals and funder requirements.
Do authors receive royalties?
OA e‑books do not generate royalties, but authors may receive royalties from print‑on‑demand (POD) sales where applicable.

Yes. We offer full coverage, percentage discounts, or fixed‑contribution agreements with universities and libraries.
Can chapters be OA in edited volumes?
