Synopsis

This chapter critically examines ethical considerations in higher education institutions’ pursuit of prestige through accreditation, quality assurance, and university rankings. It argues that the search for recognition can support accountability and improvement when ethically grounded, but it may also encourage unfair competition, metric fixation, exclusion, and compromised academic values. Using narrative synthesis and critical analysis, the chapter emphasizes accountability, transparency, fairness, social justice, and commitment to teaching and learning as essential safeguards in prestige-oriented higher education systems.
