Call for Chapter Authors -Critical Discourse Analysis—A Practical Guide for Academic Research
Critical Discourse Analysis—A Practical Guide for Academic Research
Book DescriptionThis forthcoming edited volume offers a comprehensive and practical exploration of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as both a theoretical framework and methodological approach for academic research. Aimed at graduate students, early-career researchers, and faculty in education, social sciences, and communication studies, the book provides a structured, accessible, and practice-oriented guide to understanding how language shapes, maintains, and challenges systems of power and ideology.
Through an integrated approach combining theory, methods, and applied case studies, this book bridges conceptual foundations with practical research guidance. Contributors will engage with seminal CDA frameworks, demonstrate their applications in diverse contexts, and share insights on designing, analyzing, and presenting CDA-based research projects.
Each chapter will be approximately 4,500 words and written in a style accessible to both academic and practitioner audiences.
Tentative Table of ContentsChapter 1 – Seeing the Invisible: An Invitation to CDA
Introduces Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), tracing its origins, major contributors, and evolution as an interdisciplinary research tradition. Explains how CDA reveals hidden ideologies in language and examines its relevance across education, media, and communication studies.

Chapter 4 – Choosing CDA: Aligning Method and Purpose
Guides readers in selecting CDA as a methodology, aligning research goals and philosophical assumptions. Discusses how to frame research questions, identify suitable data sources, and address ethical considerations.
Chapter 5 – Building the Bridge: Designing Your CDA Study
Offers step-by-step guidance on research design—sampling, data collection, contextual analysis, and interpretation. Provides practical templates and strategies for integrating CDA within qualitative research frameworks.
Chapter 6 – CDA in Action: Lessons from the Field
Presents case studies demonstrating CDA’s application across real-world contexts—education policy, media representation, and inequality discourses. Emphasizes methodological rigor and interpretive insight through practical examples.
Chapter 7 – Telling the Story: Writing CDA Research
Focuses on how to write and present CDA findings effectively. Discusses common challenges in organizing arguments, maintaining analytical balance, and preparing manuscripts for publication.
Chapter 8 – Tools of the Trade: Templates, Software, and Analytical Resources
Introduces software and tools (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA) that support CDA research. Includes coding templates, sample project outlines, and recommendations for digital workflows and ethical data management.
Chapter 9 – Beyond the Page: CDA’s Future Directions
Reflects on emerging trends such as multimodality, digital discourse, and AI-assisted analysis. Calls for global collaboration and new directions in applying CDA to contemporary social and technological issues.
